In Cleveland’s jazz community, some musicians are known as much for their collaboration as for their individual voice. Chris Burge is part of that lineage—a drummer and bandleader whose work moves across jazz, funk, and contemporary improvisation. As a performer and educator based in Northeast Ohio, Burge has built a reputation through steady work with regional ensembles and his own projects, where rhythm and interaction sit at the center of the music.
With the Chris Burge Trio, that approach comes into focus. The trio format leaves room for conversation between players—drums not just keeping time, but shaping direction alongside keys or bass. Expect a set that draws from jazz standards, original material, and groove-based improvisation, with shifts in tempo and feel that respond to the room. It’s music built on listening as much as playing, where each piece can take a slightly different path.

Event Details
The George Martins bring a deep appreciation for the The Beatles songbook to the stage—less as imitation, more as interpretation. Formed in 2016 for a Beatles-themed hunger relief fundraiser, the Cleveland-based group has grown into a thoughtful ensemble known for exploring the full arc of the band’s music, from early pop harmonies to later studio-era compositions. Their members—drawn from a range of Northeast Ohio bands—bring decades of collective experience to arrangements that treat these songs with care and musicality rather than costume or nostalgia.
Expect a set that moves across eras: the melodic clarity of early hits alongside more intricate later works from albums like Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The George Martins are known for tight vocal harmonies, attentive instrumentation, and a sense of joy that invites the room in—whether you know every lyric or are hearing these songs live for the first time. Their performances often highlight songs the original band never toured, offering a different way to hear familiar material.

Event Details
For more than four decades, Blue Lunch has been a steady presence in Cleveland’s blues landscape—rooted in swing-era blues, jump blues, and classic R&B. Formed in 1984, the band built its sound around tight horn arrangements, harmonica-driven leads, and a deep respect for artists like Louis Jordan and T-Bone Walker. Fronted for many years by harmonica player and vocalist Dan “Daddy Cool” Miller, Blue Lunch became known for its consistent lineup, regional touring, and a catalog that includes recordings like Blue Lunch Special and Above the Fold. Their longevity has made them a reference point for Cleveland blues, with regular appearances at festivals and clubs across Northeast Ohio. Expect a set that leans into groove and familiarity—shuffle rhythms, walking bass lines, and a horn section that carries both melody and punch. Blue Lunch’s live shows are less about spectacle and more about feel: songs unfold with space for solos, call-and-response moments, and the kind of interplay that comes from years of playing together. It’s music that meets listeners where they are, whether you’re following every chord change or simply settling into the rhythm

In Cleveland, some voices are known not just for how they sound, but for where they’ve carried them. Lillian Ruffin is one of those artists—a gospel and soul vocalist whose career has been shaped through church music, community stages, and regional performances across Northeast Ohio. Her work reflects a foundation in gospel tradition, with a delivery that draws on testimony, phrasing, and emotional clarity rather than ornament. Ruffin has been part of ensembles and local programs that center spiritual and soul-rooted music, building a reputation for consistency and connection with audiences. Ruffin’s performances often move between gospel standards, soul interpretations, and contemporary selections, with an emphasis on message and feeling. The pacing allows space for reflection as much as response—moments where the room listens closely, and others where voices join in. Whether accompanied by a small ensemble or backing tracks, the focus remains on vocal presence and the shared experience it creates.

In Cleveland, the name Leo’s Casino carries history. The original club, open in the 1960s and 70s, was a central stop on the Chitlin’ Circuit, hosting artists like James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and The Supremes. Today, Leo’s Casino lives on as a Cleveland-based band and project dedicated to that legacy—revisiting the funk, soul, and R&B that once filled the room at East 75th and Euclid. Their work connects present-day audiences to a specific chapter of the city’s musical past, where touring acts and local players shared the same stage.
At The Sixty6, expect a set built around that repertoire. The band draws from classic soul and funk songbooks, with arrangements shaped for a live band setting—rhythm section forward, horns when possible, and vocals that stay close to the phrasing of the era. The performance moves between danceable grooves and mid-tempo selections, reflecting the range that defined the original venue. It’s music that invites recognition while also placing it back in a Cleveland context.
